Zechariah - Dr. Jim Van Dine

About the Course

Zechariah has a profound message for Israel as they begin to recover from the discipline of the Babylonian captivity, namely that since the Lord is still intent on establishing His rule on earth through Messiah, the faithful of Israel should not be discouraged by present opposition but continue their work of witness, as enabled by the Holy Spirit. This message is likewise applicable to the Church as we await Christ's return. Prophecy teaches us not to be discouraged when evil appears to be overcoming the good, but rather be counting on and testifying to Christ's coming reign on earth. Zechariah continues to encourage and motivate God's people today. Join us for this timely and encouraging study!

"Pray, then, in this way: 'Our Father who is in heaven, Hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.'" (Matthew 6:9,10)

Romans 6-8 - Dr. Jim Van Dine

About the Course

"Be Holy," "Do not sin," "Depart from iniquity," "Flee youthful lusts." Much, much easier said than done. And yet this is precisely what God commands the believer to do. Is it really possible to win the battle with sin? The Apostle Paul answers "yes," even though he also struggled with sin's power in his day-to-day experience. Romans 6-8 is the most comprehensive revelation on this subject in the Bible. In this passage Paul lays out what God has done in providing for our victory over daily sin and how we put in to practice those provisions (oh, and the traps of failure that we must avoid in this pursuit). As long as we are in "this body of death," sin will be on the prowl to take us captive. Join us in considering how to defeat this present enemy, and thereby experience "fruit unto holiness."

"But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life." Romans 6:22

Leviticus - Dr. Jim Van Dine

About the Course

God created and redeemed the nation Israel so that they might enjoy fellowship with Him and, as a result, display Him and his grace to the world. The Book of Leviticus shows how a people infected by sin can come into the presence of the Holy God for this fellowship. As such this book also lays the theological foundation for the New Testament doctrines of atonement, sanctification, and glorification in Jesus Christ. The Christian benefits greatly from understanding how the sacrifices, rituals, festivals, and other Levitical procedures were fulfilled in Messiah unto the future establishment of His kingdom of peace and righteousness.

"For we do not have a high priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but One who has been tempted in all things as we are, yet without sin." Hebrews 4:15 (NASB95)

Psalms - Dr. Jim Van Dine

About the Course

How can a man's most personal and revealing thoughts, be at the same time God's timeless truth for all people? As such, the book of Psalms shows us how we can express our true thoughts and feelings to God (whether complaint or praise) in a manner that anticipates His positive response.

By learning the basic psalm types, becoming aware of various viewpoints of the psalms, and exposing ourselves daily to this rich source of patterned communication with God, we can learn to interact with the Almighty in the same way that David and the Lord Jesus Christ did.
