About Emmaus Bible College

Emmaus is located in Dubuque, Iowa. It is a nondenominational Bible college, fully accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools (NCA) and the American Association of Bible Colleges.

Our teacher for this course will be Dr. Jim Van Dine. Jim taught the book of Leviticus at our Evening Bible School last year. You will enjoy and benefit from his practical and relevant instruction. The study this fall will be Romans 6-8. We will deal with the daily struggle to live holy lives in a very unholy world.

"Therefore, prepare your minds for action, keep sober in spirit, fix your hope completely on the grace to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ. As obedient children, do not be conformed to the former lusts which were yours in your ingnorance, but like the Holy One who called you, be holy yourselves also in all your behavior." (1 Peter 1:13-15, NAS95)

About the Course

"Be Holy," "Do not sin," "Depart from iniquity," "Flee youthful lusts." Much, much easier said than done. And yet this is precisely what God commands the believer to do. Is it really possible to win the battle with sin? The Apostle Paul answers "yes," even though he also struggled with sin's power in his day-to-day experience. Romans 6-8 is the most comprehensive revelation on this subject in the Bible. In this passage Paul lays out what God has done in providing for our victory over daily sin and how we put in to practice those provisions (oh, and the traps of failure that we must avoid in this pursuit). As long as we are in "this body of death," sin will be on the prowl to take us captive. Join us in considering how to defeat this present enemy, and thereby experience "fruit unto holiness."

"But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life." Romans 6:22
